About the Bees
Slightly smaller than honeybees, mason bees are peaceful and amazing pollinators visiting as many as 1000 blooms per day. Females lay eggs in the hollow tubes and seal them up with some mud. Other beneficial insects will also likely take up residence in the houses ( like leaf-cutter bees and mason wasps) and even birds will pop in and use the straw to make their nests.
I find that placement doesn't matter all that much but if you can find a spot that receives morning sun, the bees will warm up from chilly nights and start their day sooner. Mount them via the small hole drilled in the back or place them on a table. Once you decide on a spot though, as soon as you start seeing insect activity they should be left in place so the mama bees can find their homes!
